L’Arc~en~Ciel | Review

L’Arc~en~Ciel is a rock band from Osaka, Japan. As one of the best-selling music artists in Japan L’Arc~en~Ciel has found both national and international fame while selling over 20 million albums, singles and merchandise all along with successful world tours that have included the U.S., Europe, and Asia.

Founded in 1991 by bassist Tetsuya, L’Arc~en~Ciel has been making music for about 23 years now and they are now veterans of the Japanese rock movement. But back then in 1991 a french named band that would make a mix between alternative punk and visual kei didn’t ring any bells to anyone, after all the world was adapting to the grunge era when Nirvana peaked triumph with their best-selling album Nevermind. L’Arc had went through different stages and some scandalous moments, yet they had always managed to come back stranger than before. In 1997 one of the former members known as “sakura” had been caught having cocaine in his possession and left the band shortly 8 months later and the same year their new single “虹(Niji)” debuted at number 3 in the Oricon Singles Ranking.

L’Arc~en~Ciel as a visual kei band in their early beginnings. Yep, never imagined it uh?

L’Arc has experienced with different genres but always made a bond with every single and album they release. Perhaps Hyde’s voice is the “bond” that unifies L’Arc~en~Ciel songs, even if one is a hard rock song and the other an alternative rock song, you can always say: ‘Yes, this is what L’Arc is about!’. Many of their songs have been featured in popular anime series like “The Fourth Avenue Cafe” features in 4 episodes in the anime Rurouni Kenshin, “Driver’s High” also was used as the first opening theme for Great Teacher Onizuka. “Link” was used in Fullmetal Alchemist with  “READY STEADY GO” and “Daybreak’s Bell” used as opening theme songs for Fullmetal Alchemist and Mobile Suit Gundam respectively.

Officially L’Arc has went on hiatus twice and released two ‘best of’ albums both times they went on hiatus so you wouldn’t be dead bored while waiting for their comeback. All their songs have done well in charts and sales and each of them has an special feeling and gives an unique vibe. If anything we should focus on their best selling single to understand and feel what I just put in words. L’Arc~en~Ciel’s “Honey” sold over 1,238,414 copies in its first month. “Honey” is a good song to listen to so you can understand how L’Arc rocks.

So far L’Arc~en~Ciel has released a total of 12 albums and 14 singles, most of them topping charts in Japan and sellings millions of copies few months after their released. Apart from having a successful discography, L’Arc have evolved into a stronger and powerful sound that attracted an audience of 20,000 persons in the Madison Square Garden theater in New York being the first asian band to do so.

L’Arc~en~Ciel will release a new single titled “EVERLASTING” in August 2014 making the long wait wait finish after almost 3 years since releasing a single. We hope “EVERLASTING” takes the main spot once again in Japan which would make yet another huge percfect comeback from the band!

Finally here it is my favorite single “Good Luck My Way”. Enjoy and support L’Arc~en~Ciel if you liked them!
