Most Watched J-Pop Videos 2015 + J-Rock

After all these years in the world of J-Pop and Japanese music in general I have learned something really important about the Japanese music industry. Every year is subject to a change. A new rise.

*Sandaime J Soul Brothers were one of the biggest acts in 2015 after they rose to commercial success with R.Y.U.S.E.I last year. With the second best selling album of the year PLANET SEVEN and another Japan Record Award Grand Prize just won yesterday it’s clear that they are here to stay.

What I mean by this is that every year there is a new artist or group that has their breakthrough in unforeseeable ways. They rise and take the top spot regardless of how many years they have been around or what music they make. Some get all the glory for that year and eventually die out and remain low key but consistent in the industry like KPP and Golden Bomber or even Babymetal, although these girls do have potential and a bit more to show off apart from what they gave us in 2014 but remains to be seen yet. On the other hand we have groups that rise and come here to stay for long, very, very long. They have talent and a production quality that is top notch or simply different and innovative. Most of the time these are the artists that will lead the music market for the coming years and they are indeed the future of J-Music. These ones, I’d dare to say are now groups like; Sandaime J Soul Brothers, SEKAI NO OWARI and the latest hot shot Gesu no Kiwami Otome.

*Nominated for the grand prize at the Japan Record Awards and performing at the prestigious Kohaku Uta Gassen festival, Gesu no Kiwami Otome are now propelled to the top as kings and they yet have more to give us, watch out for them in 2016.

Gesu No Kiwami Otome are pretty much the new rad guys on the block and have paved a flawless path of fine music since their not so long ago debut. I found out about these band before they became big, back in late 2013 while scrolling through RADWIMPS’ recommended videos feed. God bless you RADWIMPS you did well there. First time I heard Gesu I heard instant talent. Beautiful quirky catchy tunes with the grooviest melodies I ever heard in years. Then I saw the embarrassing amount of views and pretty much wailed in pain and wondered why so much injustice in this world. But deep inside I saw potential and power, massive power. You could call it the power of music or whatnot but it was something that distinguished Gesu from the rest. And I thought ‘They will probably be huge one day’.

Now here we are, making a list of the most watched MVs in Japan and Gesu no Kiwami Otome taking the number one spot with over 36 million view as of this very moment.

So here is the thing people, every year there is new stuff becoming mainstream in Japan, behind this there is a power, formed by talent, artistry, production and promotion there is a power that J-Music has that is like gasoline. At first may look like nothing relevant but if it meets the required conditions it will turn into pure lit fire and blind you with it. That is J-Music. Don’t underestimate anything here because it’s all fire waiting to be lit.

Now then if you read my long ass rant and made it up until here I thank you and finally let you know which were the most viewed music videos in Japan in 2015. Thank you for staying with me and my little blog. I may have not been as active as I was before but I’m still here and I will always be here to provide all the stats and info you need to know about J-Pop. Happy New Year to you and may we have more wonderful memories with our J-Pop J-Rock eden.
